Frequently Asked Questions

Lash Extensions

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are individual strands of synthetic fibers made to replicate a natural eyelash. When applied, eyelash extensions lengthen and thicken your own natural eyelashes. The single strands are applied to each individual eyelash, one by one. With proper application, lash extensions look and feel completely natural.

How do I choose the look I want?

Your technician will consult with you to understand what type of style you are interested in and what look will work best with your natural lashes. The overall look of the lashes can range from very natural to very voluminous!

How long will my initial appointment take?

We take an artisan approach with our customers and will not rush your appointment. You can expect your first appointment to take approximately 120-150 minutes. Unlike some salons we do not count eyelashes, a full set is a full set. We will use as many as are needed to create the right look for you. If you are happy, then we are happy.

What do I need do before my lash appointment?

If you use water proof mascara, avoid using it 2-3 days before your appointment. The film it leaves on your lashes may prevent the extensions from adhering correctly. Arrive to your appointment with dry, clean lashes and makeup free. The more time your artist has the spend cleaning your lashes, the less time you have for the application.  Remove contact lenses before your appointment as well.

Why do I lose some of my eyelashes?

Due to the natural growth cycle of your lashes you will find your natural eyelashes shed every 60-90 days as new ones grows in. We recommend getting a fill every three to four weeks to fill in lashes on the new growth.

Can I use eyelash growth products with my lash extensions?

Lash growth products that contain steroids change the composition of your lashes and accelerate your eyelash shedding cycle, therefore we cannot guarantee the outcome. Natural lash growth products containing peptides are wonderful and will have no adverse effect on the longevity of your extensions.

Will extensions damage my natural lashes?

Yes and no. Yes, your lashes can be damaged if you go to someone who was not properly trained and uses cheap products not intended for long wear. No, extensions properly applied by a certified, trained technician who uses quality products should not. Our eyelash extension application techniques and innovative aftercare ensures your lash health.

What happens if I choose to have my eyelash extensions removed?

We do offer a service to have the extensions removed involving a short thirty-minute appointment in which we apply a cream remover. The cream remover is applied on top of the extensions without touching the skin and allowed to sit for 10 minutes. Once the adhesive is dissolved the extensions are gently wiped away with lint free applicators exposing the natural lashes.

When should I schedule my wedding day makeup appointment?

We recommend scheduling your makeup for your wedding 6-9 months prior to secure your date with our artist.  However, if something does arise unexpectedly definitely reach out as soon as possible to secure your date.

When is the best time to schedule my makeup trial?

We suggest booking your trial at least 2-3 months in advance.  We advise this to provide the opportunity for the artist and the wedding party to collaborate and share ideas on any improvements or changes pertaining to the bride’s look for her wedding day.  A lot of brides also like to have their trial makeup on an important day like their bridal shower or dress fitting to see the complete look.

Do I need to bring anything with me for the trial?

You can definitely bring any photos of makeup, your wedding dress, accessories and color scheme so we can collaborate the perfect look for your wedding day.  The look is totally up to you but we are more than happy to give our professional recommendations as well.  The trial is set for one look, if you want to try multiple looks we can schedule back-to-back appointments and each look will be charged the same price.

Where will my trial take place?

It will take place at my studio in Redondo Beach. If you want to have your trial done elsewhere please let us know and we can arrange that for you.  Be mindful that travel fees will be added to the total of the trial based on miles from my studio.

What cosmetics do you use?

We use a wide array of prestige cosmetics including MAC, Bobbi Brown, SkII, Urban Decay, Tarte, Kiehl’s, Anastasia, Makeup Forever, Nars, Tatcha- just to name a few.

Do you suggest I get a facial and wax my brows right before the wedding?

Absolutely, but don’t wait right until the day before! We suggest getting an exfoliating and hydrating facial at least one week prior to the wedding.  Also please do any facial waxing 5-7 days before, as the makeup will not stick to freshly waxed skin.

What type of lashes do you use?
We have a wide array of strip lashes for everyone from dramatic to natural. We also do eyelash extensions and suggest getting your full set 2-3 weeks before the wedding.  Schedule a fill 3-4 days before the wedding so they are fresh and fluffy for your wedding day.  Doing a full set in advance lets us decide exactly what style is best suited for your eye shape and allows changes right before the big day.

Microblading

How old do I have to be in order to get microblading?

You must be 18 years or older to receive permanent makeup. It is our policy at Etched Beauty not to work with children, even with a consent form.

Can I get microblading done while I am pregnant or breast-feeding?

No, we do not recommend microblading while pregnant or breast-feeding.  We will gladly take care of your brow needs after your pregnancy and once you are done breast-feeding.

Is microblading painful?

Most of our clients report little to no pain during the procedure.  We use a numbing cream before and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible.

How long will my appointment be?

We set out 3 hours for your appointment.  Most of the time spent is going over color choices and perfecting your eyebrow shape with a pencil.  The microblading procedure only lasts 35-45 minutes.

Who should avoid microblading?

If you are prone to keloids or post-inflammatory hypopigmentation

If you have a transmittable disease like HIV or Hepatitis
 Patients undergoing chemotherapy

If you have a skin condition by your eyebrows like eczema, shingles or rashes

If you have any allergies to alcohol or numbing agents

If you have a dark and uneven pre-existing eyebrow tattoo

Since microblading cuts in to the skin, unfortunately we can NOT perform this service on clients with these conditions

How long does the microblading last?

Microbladed eyebrows can last 1-2 years for most people. Depending on your skin type, we recommend touch ups yearly to keep your shape and color perfected.

We can NOT guarantee results as everyone has a different skin type, responds to ink differently and heals at a different pace.
